Lecture on Saturday, October 13: "Neuromuscular Disease and Breathing"

Joshua Benditt MD is a University of Washington professor and directory of the UW Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine.

Benditt is interested in research designed to improve care for people with neuromuscular respiratory failure (such as patients with muscular dystrophy, ALS, spinal cord injury).

He sees a wide variety of patients with respiratory conditions and is internationally known for his passion in serving their needs, considered one of a very small number of physicians who specializes in this field.

Benditt is particularly interested in efforts to advance the frontier of noninvasive ventilation (PAP therapies, in example) for people with neuromuscular disease in order to improve their quality of life and extend their expectancy.

He has also served as chair of the American College of Physicians Home Care Network and on the Board of the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association Washington Chapter. Benditt has also served as lead investigator for the National Emphysema Treatment Trial study.
